Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a lovely room and a lovely space decorated by an interior designer? It’s that extra sparkle’ that, while it may seem insignificant, may be the icing on the cake that brings a place together.
Add Plants
Every time we have a picture session, our Head of Design Lucy shows up with a jungle in tow! It’s incredible how a single houseplant can totally transform a room! House plants are a beautiful, natural way to add contrast with a flash of color and texture in any decor, even neutral and monochrome ones. Ideal for individuals who are afraid of patterns and colors!
Low level lighting
Have you ever observed that when the ‘big light’ is on, you can’t totally relax? Because a room isn’t complete without low-level lighting, such as table or floor lights. They help you sink into space and bring your eye to a nicely decorated part of a room that might otherwise be cast in shadow by your ceiling light.
Lighting should be seen as a piece of art in and of itself. A beautiful table lamp can add a sculptural element to a sideboard even when switched off. It is perfect for adding height next to a lower level stack of books or a candle.
Restyle your shelving
Exposed bookshelves can easily appear cluttered rather than curated, and you’d be forgiven for feeling intimidated by the prospect of restyling them after years of books, flowers, and trinkets have taken up home!
Place a tray on the table
Clutter is an inescapable part of everyday life; we all have the greatest intentions to clean up after ourselves, but let’s face it, reality has other ideas! Rather than battling it, make a point of it. Trays are another interior designer’s tool, and you’ll see them in a lot of our picture shoots.
They’re a terrific way to avoid a cluttered surface by making them appear as though they were meant to be there. Place one on your stove for your collection of oils and seasonings, or on your dressing table for your perfume and makeup bottles.
Establish a focal point
Look for areas in your home that are in desperate need of a focal point – something that captures your eye and draws you in. This can be achieved by architectural features such as a picture window or a wallpapered feature wall, but it can also be achieved through simple touches such as a bold poster on the wall or a gorgeous sculptural floor lamp next to an inviting sofa!
Fill in the blank spaces
A hammer and a few nails are sometimes all that’s required to bring a concept to life! A gallery wall checks a lot of boxes; you can express yourself by including photographs or prints from your travels.
Bottom Line
Every room we design isn’t finished until it perfectly reflects its owner’s personality. Whether it’s through family photos, souvenirs from your travels, or a rare collection paintings on the wall, whatever it is that brings back memories or evokes emotion, make it the center of attention! Is your home in need of a few finishing touches or a complete makeover? To totally remodel your area, you might hire an interior designer.
